Microsoft Kin..coming up in a week!

May 3rd, 2010

Kin launch

I’m super excited to blog this update, though I didn’t get the time to post about all the amazing stuff it has to offer.

I would take this opportunity to tell you how awesome this new device is, with its social capabilities and a combo of windows phone 7 & zune engine at the back, but the official kin website does it in way cooler way. So head over to the site and set your stop watches to May 6th, 2010 for pre-order over the air.

My personal favorite is the Kin Two. There is however, something I want to let out at Microsoft.

See, the Kin is supposed to be about being social, always connected and sharing stuff at the touch of a button, but its also supposed to be a full-time multimedia player with that HD camera and Zune engine in the background. Wouldn’t it be sensible to launch the device ‘without’ any carrier contract? I mean, what’s Zune got to do with Verizon?

Fastest ARM processor coming soon to a handset near you

September 23rd, 2009

Serious mobile geeks now have a reason to celebrate!

Samsung and Intrinsity have jointly announced the fastest ARM Cortex-A8 processor architecture. The processor codenamed Hummingbird, delivers an impressive 2000DMIPS at 1GHz.

The Hummingbird can run at a high speed even at a minimum supply voltage of 1.0V, which makes it really suitable for use in mobile devices. Did I mention its almost twice as fast as the Iphone 3GS processor?

Its only a matter of time the processor is implemented in a working handset, giving a challenge to the already 1GHz Snapdragon processor in the Toshiba TG01 mobile phone.

Smart application helps get your lost / stolen phone…..does not guarantee catching the crook

January 15th, 2009

James Larry Gaines II has created Smartprotect, a mobile protection program with SMS Auto-Responder. Lets say you left your phone somewhere and cannot remember where you put it, just text your phone and get the exact location via GPS information (if your phone has GPS capability) or approximate location based on Cell Location.

This software is also equipped with a thief-prevention-system which will automatically SMS your partner phone number if the SIM has been changed from the registered SIM. There is also a setting to protect various folders if another SIM is installed, as well as delete all of the contacts saved to the device. The program requires a password which is AES-Encrypted and uninstall-proof (except for a hard reset). This program requires at least .NET 2.0.

Dropped your phone or iPod in water?

January 13th, 2009

Let’s face it, we all have heard of someone going through the pain of losing their phones / digital gadgets in the water, whether in the bathroom, or taking that swim with ipod still in pocket.

While losing the gadget is no less painful than losing the valuable data, a clever home trick may be able to save you of both. Here what you can do:

Power off the device and cover it completely in a bowl of uncooked rice. Rice being a natural desiccant will help absorb the excess moisture. Let it dry for atleast 24 hours and DO NOT try to recharge the device.

If your device has a removable battery, dry it separately.

Hopefully your device should come back to life with the above procedure. A good time to remind yourself to back up your data.

Swype: The next-gen Text input

January 12th, 2009

Swype is a revolutionary new text input panel developed for touch screen devices and tablet pcs.

The highlight of the product is that it enables users to enter text by ’swiping’ the fingers on the keyboard, tracing a path containing all the letters. Rest is handled by the genius algorithm at the back end.

The product developers claim that swype is by far the fasted way to input text on touchscreen devices, with speeds reaching upto 50 wpm. We will only find out once we test it, when its available for download.
